As a former hardcore procrastinator, I will share with you 5 reasons why I procrastinated (and still do on certain things).
1. FORCE
A lot of things I was procrastinating on were things others forced me to do. Either teachers were assigning homework assignments or my parents were ordering me to do this and that. I didn’t sign up for this!
2. LACK OF PURPOSE
Okay, I will complete the homework assignment; but WHY? I won’t ever use this and it’s so boring. I just don’t see the purpose.
3. LACK OF A CLEAR GOAL
I want to live a more free life, but I don’t know how to. Even though I want to, I will procrastinate achieving freedom because of my lack of clarity.
4. LAZINESS
“All right! Now that you have learned this information, it’s time for you to do it on your own.” Yeah… about that.
You either have no idea what is going on or you understand is going on, but you are just too lazy to do it. I’ll just do it tomorrow.
5. TOO MUCH TIME (PARKINSON’S LAW)
You are given (or you give yourself) too much time to complete a task. Because of this, you will stretch your work across the given timeframe. For procrastinators, you will do the work a few days, or hours, before the deadline.
These are the procrastination symptoms I have faced. If you want to see what strategies I used to overcome procrastination, click here.
